God calls us to whatever things are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy (see Philippians 4:8). It requires courage to live this way, and courage is another meaning of endurance. Think Daniel in the lions' den or his three friends in the fiery furnace. They'd rather die than dishonor God. That's what it means to be soldiers in God's army, trained to add virtue to their faith.
We've all had moments when we've felt like quitting. Peter says, When the trials come, don't quit! The promise is that he who endures to the end will be saved, Matthew 24:13, NKJV. For those in God's boot camp who have received everything we need for life and godliness, let us not waste His grace. It's too amazing!
